This 8-week class is an introduction to the Yoga Sutras attributed to the Sage Patanjali. The 195 aphorisms are brilliantly concise direct statements used as a source scripture by many traditional yoga systems and as such could be studied for the rest of one's life. They offer a step-by-step means for breaking free of habitual ways of thinking and acting, and provide a map for attaining true inner liberation.
The principles and practices of raja yoga and ashtanga yoga (8 limbed yoga) are found within the four books of the Yoga Sutras. The four books are:
- The Cultivation of Pure Awareness
- The Path or Way (including the eight limbs of practice)
- Soul Powers
- Spiritual Liberation
Encompassing both philosophy and practice, the sutras provide indispensable instruction for all serious students of yoga. This course is open to all and suggested for students who have completed the Living the Eternal Way Class, Be Still and Know Mediation Course, or are studentsof yoga.
